Time to let the Chaps back

Since I was bored tonight and didn't feel like working out in the shop,I started looking at the Eagle River photos. No chaps in any pics,none there. After fighting to be able to run for years they have disappeared. I know it's 440 now, but isn't it sickening to see all the poos out there? I know the 2 top teams have said let them run. Could they be brought back ? I should clarify I'm talking about the WC,I know they can run other classes.

    I say run em. Whats the worst that can happen? They beat everyone? Build a better mouse trap next year....

    The dominate Chap sleds were from out east with some north of the border drivers. If they were from the Eagle River area they may have lasted longer but over domination, money and politics will dictate who survives no matter what motor sport you are in.

    I've talked to a lot of people that say they would love to see them run again. they are legal everywhere else in super mod,ISR rules. Why just Eagle?

    If the chaps get let back in...it will wreck the WC. Not because they will dominate but then i might have to do some bribing to get a phazer to be legal then the tx's...crap...i mean starfires don't stand a chance!

    I don't think they would "dominate". Sure was fun to watch them battle

    have any of you take the time to go to a meeting where rules are talked about ? thats how you change stuff   ,yapping on this  site is a waste of time. go to the rules meetings and ask.

    But Paul,the rules say they are legal. I wanted to see what people thought,and maybe find out why they aren't allowed in the WC. And also, it's been pretty boring around here,maybe some yapping is what's needed to gin up some excitement for the coming year.

    yea it deffinitly would be nice to see something but Polaris, but when I was told no chapps in super mod anymore because it was going to become the new WC class and they dident want to see all RED across the line, I decided to sell them, WHAT GOOD WERE THEY. now it would not be worth all the time and money to build one again. ill keep running the other RED sled THE RUPP

    SUPER MOD
    1. Any 1985 or older Stock Qualified leaf spring model allowed.
    2. 1972 and 73 Chaparrals also allowed.
    3. Chaparrals must maintain OEM front-end dimensions and use designated oil only shocks (no gas shocks).
    4. Approved part numbers for Chapparrals and OEM dimensions will be supplied.
    5. On Chapparals, sway bar must be used in OEM location. A larger diameter sway bar may be used. To mount a
    larger diameter sway bar, the location may be moved up or down to clear drive.

    take a chap 440 triple ifs sled .seen one at princeston sell for 2500.00 and put a leaf spring front end on it and go super mod racing ..not that hard  or build a chassis and put the big fugi 440 triple chap motor in it and glass on it and go racing .chaparral did build a leaf spring race sled ..why do they need a ifs to compete when everybody else has to be leaf spring .I do believe the rules allow this now .I for one would like to see more color out there but with the rules the way they are Polaris is the cheapest smart bet right now

    What I cant understand is why the Chaps are banned yet the Polarises are allowed to run twin cylinder motors that they were not manufactured with

    The Polaris sleds are allowed the twin because it is Super Mod 1985 And older .
    The twin engines are 1974-81 , so they fall in to the rules .

    Further more twin 440 engines were available in 1973 TX 440 .

    Super mod rules says engine must OEM for the brand , 1985 and older .

    Also the Chaps can use a twin trail sled crankcase with a pair of 650 triple cylinders and make a 440 twin mod engine , or use a liquid 440 Chap engine and build an IFS super mod liquid 440 for Alexandia TLR ,Iron wood TLR, ER on modern weekend TLR   

    Think about it folks .


    I agree ,bring Back the 1972-73 IFS Chapp's    !!

    I had a good conversation with a gentleman that used to run a chap when it was 650 and seem to think there was really no advantage due to the crappy stock style shock they had to run.

     I was in the first vintage  wc with a chapp 650 ,1972   
    Mine was stock width, lenght ,height ,in 03 it was a different world .We did have gas shocks,but the stock bulkhead tore apart about every other race. what happened in my eyes with the chapps is they were  over done,there were some super talented guys involved and it went a bit to far. I love the chapps and want to see them back.
