1974 Tx 500 Resurrection from a logging sled to a rider again
« on: November 10, 2013, 08:55:26 pm »
Resurrection of this sled was nothing less than  a labor of love. I love these old girls and hate to see them used till there used up. In there hay Day they where the muscle sled that few could beat but with that some met a work horse fate and this is that story. I had been looking for a Tx 500 for 6 months and had my buddies all sniffing for one for me. I must of had called Brian Bonner and Lee a hundred times, Find anything yet! Well it was a old muscle car guy that stopped at my shop and told me of this sled he was offered a few years back that was up by St Cloud MN. He found the number for the guy a few days later so I called to see if it was still around. I did indeed find it and this is what I found. The guy was super nice and explained that it was used as a logging sled to haul wood in from naboring farms for the last 12 years give or take. I asked what he wanted for it and he was very firm at $800 but for a running driving Tx 500 I was game. So off I went to check it out, what I found was less than I expected to say the least and here is her story in pictures. If you hold your cursor over the pictures in the slide show you can read the captions as I take you through the story. From start to finish. I wanted to put this into a slide show to take up less space than posting 26 pictures. The pictures do a pretty good job showing what I had to work with and the work it was going to take to get it a rider again. I have never seen so much goo and gunk on a machine in my life. The guy that had it had a hard time starting it that day and used ether, once it was running gas was pouring out the clutch side carb and frankly I am shocked it didn't catch fire before we even got it in my truck. All the way home I kept asking myself what, Why did I buy this. Well true to my name here I was Hexed again by a Tx. Today I bought 2 more from Jim Smith and again I ask myself why did I do that. LOL I have a great bunch of friends here that are very supporting of my sled habit. We will call them enablers. ha ha Well enjoy the show. I have several resurrections to post and a few restorations on going too.

You have collected some of my favorite Polaris sleds. Good work and yes I have the same problem.
Old rusty stuff. Cool to me
