1964 Arctic Cat Cub Restoration
« on: March 03, 2012, 12:14:20 am »
Well, we are almost done with the Cub we have been working on since late last summer.
Here is a few pictures of it where we found it, buried in a pole shed.

And here it is after we got it home.

These are a few of the pictures we took while tearing it apart.

A lot of WD-40 and some very bad words were used trying to get the steering and the front PTO knuckle apart...

Finally starting to get it ready for blasting.

Notice how nice the inside of the tires were. Glad they were like this, might have been tough to get a paint match otherwise.

Here is after she'd been blasted and painted, starting to go together again. We had to put different tires on it as we didn't have any luck finding decent originals to put on it. Of course a week after we had put the Ag tires on it we found a good set of the tires that should have been on it.

And of course some mock up shots with the panels and the seat on it.

And some more mock ups after the handle bars went on.

And here are the pictures from tonight. Everything is done except for the side panels, we had to send them back to be re-painted again.

Thanks for the nice comments. I went looking for finished pictures of the Cub, and this is all I could find.

Looking at the guts of it.

Recreation of the dealer sticker that was on it when we found it.

At the Willow River Show last summer.

Wow! You don't see many of those. What drives the chain in the front? A U joint somewhere?

There's a chain running to a PTO knuckle that goes through the forks. Gets jumpy on dry land but is fine in snow, so we keep the front chain off of it most of the time.

Nice job on the restoration. I wasn't aware that these were all wheel drive until I saw your pictures. I was studying the drive system, it's pretty interesting the way they put the u-joint under the fork pivot.
