What's that sled again??
« on: January 05, 2022, 10:37:08 pm »
Thought of this the other day and thought I'd put it out to the masses...
Arctic Cat made many models of sleds, and most of them have fairly common names.
One, however, gets pronounced several ways here in New England.
The little PUMA  gets its name  as either:

Pooma  or,

Pyoo-ma

How do you say it in your neck of the woods?

The other one is the  EL-Teegray, or

El-Teegruh

Wish we had a poll option, be interesting to see what the consensus is.....

    Pooma

Occasionally EL-Teegray  but more often we just called them Tiggers.

The proper pronunciation is el teegray , as it was put into use after Cat had their summer? meeting in mexico and that's how you say tiger in spanish, the e in tigre' has the accent on it and they pronounce the e like a long A, the el tigra is not correct, I think the people who call them tiggers just aren't familiar with the spanish language

When you're talking Arty-Cat...pyuma and el' teegray
Normal American English...pooma and el' tigrah

    Hi,
I find the Puma pronunciation thing kind of amusing.   I'm a diehard Cat fan and growing up (in WI), I always heard it pronounced pew-ma, not pooma.   I never heard pooma until the 1980's when the Puma shoe brand came out.   The reason the shoes are "pooma" is because it is a German company.   The German language pronounces the "u" as "oo".   So, Puma shoes are "Pooma" shoes.
I have a Webster's dictionary from 2003 that says puma is "pew-ma" not "pooma"...
Also, Arctic Cat's own sales films pronounce Puma both ways.    :o
So, which is correct?    I guess it's up to the person saying it...  ;)
