    Hello project488,

Are you sure the bowl isn't cracked?
If not, I'd try replacing the bolt & gasket.

Is there supposed to be a gasket inside the bowl too?

With the k series engines don't even mess around with the original carbs, when they stop working you can get them online (or local power equipment dealer) they work great every time and the best part is that they are pretty cheap.

I believe Leaf springs forever is referring to the Chinese Imports.
They are actually for a 4hp, the venturi is a lot smaller than what an 8hp would be.
I guess they do work pretty well and can be had for about $15.

I have one a them China carbs on my garden tractor and that's 14hp so I'm sure you could get one for 8hp it's a very common motor so it shouldn't be a problem to find one.

Édit: it has been working good for two years and is identical to the varnish and rust filled original
I got it from a local power equipment dealer so that may have helped with getting the right one.

The K91's used a Carter Model N with a 16 on the inside, something to do with the venturi.
    The K-141's used a Carter Model N - 18.
    The K-161's used a Carter Model N - 20.
    The K-181's used a Carter Model N - 22.
    The K-241's used a Carted Model N - 26.
    The K-301's used a Carter Model N - 28.
    The OMC's Model 215 used a Carter Model N - 34.
The ones that are being sold on E-bay usually state what number the venturi is,
    all I've seen are 16, 26, and larger. I have yet to see a 22, or a 28.
I do know many guys have put the 16's on K-181's and they run, not sure if they will run full speed.
I have a few, but have not put them on as of yet.
They are cheaper than a kit.
