Salsbury 880 maybe
« on: May 17, 2021, 12:32:06 am »
I am not very well schooled in clutches so please help me learn something tonight.
I have an old Fuji 340, a Chaparral version. It has one of these clutches on it. I believe it is a Series 800 Salsbury clutch. Would this be a 30 tapered shaft? I want to put it on my Sachs 340 SS and am wondering if it would be an upgrade.
This is the clutch that is on it now.

I found the manual over at vintagesnow.com/clutches/Salsbury 800 Manual  but it still doesn't say what the taper is.

On the back and the outer part of the fixed face, there will be a number stamped. If you give me it, I should be able to tell you what it is.

From what I've been told, you take that clutch and throw it as hard as possible and run in the opposite direction.

Hard to find parts for these 800 series i think. why not use a ribbed cover duster, white spring and 6 25g pucks, solid setup for a single 340

You can't give it a little love guys?  This series doesn't have the 6 plastic slides. Those screws are for easy adjustments.
I'll pop it off on Wednesday and see what it is.

Great performance clutch for that era, just didn't hold up well.

It would be pretty cool to run one of these 880's , i thought they were pretty well thought out from a design standpoint. these were supposed to be the next thing in performance clutching for them

It was junk. Someone tried to remove it already. Wobly recycled the entire motor. It was a cdi ignition too.
