Found a 96 XCR 600 triple to go along with my 96 440 SP. Like the 96's with the xtra-10. Nice ride.

Sweet sled. I have one but it’s strictly parts for my 97. Not much left of it. My favorite outta all of them is the 1997 XC 600. CRC front end too.

very nice pair! I never looked twice at the 440’s when they were new. I ended up with a 97 XC 440 a couple years ago. I bought it for parts and decided it was too nice to part out. So much fun for a piston port 440 mill. Now i want a 96 XCR 440 SP!

The 96 SP has the CRC steering rack under the hood. They just didnt get to the tipped in trailing arms and aluminum steering arms yet. I took it out and cleaned everything up and you can steer it really easy now. But what a Beech to get that in and out of the chassis.

I know what you mean. I never looked twice at them back in the day either. Triples were the hot sleds then.
They are fun. Its amazing how hard that little 440 will pull. My has some minor porting. I dont know if it makes a difference or not.
First time I took it out I rode my buddy's butt on his 600 XC. All he said was "That 440 aint no slouch is it"  8) 8)

yeah I had plenty of mono block triples back in the day.  You say you took your steering apart and cleaned it up and made it easier to steer? I wonder if that is the problem with mine? it is a bit hard to turn. My 97 has the adjustable front shock but it’s missing the adjuster. I figured it had something to do with that being gone and having too much ski pressure?

You can find those adjuster shocks here and there. I just saw one online some where. If I see it again I will let you know where it is.
To find out if its the steering all gummed up or corroded jack the front end up and see how it turns. Mine was stiff. If you need to take it apart and out of the chassis to clean it up and lube it, I think you willneed to pull engine. Not positive but I did mine with the engine out and it wasnt easy.

Thanks Brokenleg, i know for sure the adjuster is missing and i need to check out the rest
of the system to see what i need for sure. I ran it last
weekend and put about 100 miles on it. It didn’t miss a beat.

Depending whats been done to it or not been done, If its real nice I know you cant restore one for 3000.00. Nice ones are hard to come buy. I havnt added up my slips yet for my restoration. I cant tell you how many hours upon hours I spent doing it either.

Anyone know the production number on the 440 SP?

Cool sleds, I have pair of them. Lots of work to repair the slop in the steering rack and set up the front suspension correctly.

My steering was just about froze up on mine when I got it. That was a real beech to get out of the sled to clean it all up. I had the engine out of it when I removed the the steering rack. I dont know if it could be removed with engine in it. After alot of work it steers like a dream now.

I would agree, if it’s nice it would save a lot of time. With only 1 pic it’s hard to say how nice it is. there was another on for sale for $2500 that looked nice also. Seat was split in the middle.  was gone in a day. As far as how many made i am not sure? i believe you could snow check the SP in 96.
