1981 Nordik
« on: January 11, 2021, 06:43:37 pm »
So my son is loving the Indy trail 583, and my daughter needs a sled.  Had a Nordik in the barn for about 10 yrs so we went to work😁  Pulled  off the sad 124” track, changed drivers, a few skid mods, and put on a 15x128 cobra.  Swapped in a cdi stator from a Rotax 462.  A set of Formula S handlebars got us hand warmers and a parking brake.  Hoping to get out this coming weekend for a trial run!

Didn’t get too crazy on skid mods, Nordik is a pretty uncommon sled around here so I didn’t want to butcher it.  Moved rear axle back a bit on the rails and made bolt on drop brackets for clearance in the rear so I could leave the original tunnel extension.

Original bars were bent & welded.  Formula S bars came complete off eBay with all the switches and grips.   Built a pivot adapter and used bike risers, overall ended up about 2” taller than stock.

The track I bought came from a Firecat.  Found out after I got it that it’s a “quiet track” so it has rubber wedges molded in the driver row.  Had to machine the center of the kimpex drivers down a bit to get a good fit in the track.

The Nordik finally hit the snow again after probably 20 years of sitting.  The kids love it!

Nice looking unit! I've got one of those Nordiks (an 82 I think) sitting in my backyard with not much wrong with it other than a busted up hood from some dunce hauling it sitting backwards on his trailer. I might have to get fix it up someday. They also made a Skandic version of the Citation/Nordik. As I recall, it was a little bit longer than the Nordik and had a rack on the back.

Yeah the Skandic 377 had a 139” track.  This sled is pretty cool, not as fast as the 80 citation ss we had years ago but still cool.  And the track upgrade makes a huge difference!
I’m curious if the SS had a tighter secondary spring than the Nordik.  Gearing is pretty low at 14/35 but it doesn’t feel like it holds rpm as well as the old SS.  Of course the SS had zero traction🤣

And thanks!  It looks pretty good but does have some belly pan rust and hood cracks as usual!
