Just remember that back then they did not have all the tools we have now to make things

Pics of spacer without chain-case attached.  The large triangular hole is needed to install front axle bearing and flange.  Skiroule built theirs with a round hole, our bad. LOL

Another part on the SX-740 that is different from the rest of the 1969 Skiroule models is the steering post support hoop.  In order to span the engine and chain case spacer , the hoop has to be about 4 1/4 inches longer . One end  mounts to the running board instead of the top of the tunnel . This requires the hoop to also be 6 1/2 approx. longer, on that side.  We looked at this and thought , no big deal.  ;D Take some measurements off Chatham and Warning sled , buy the required size steel tubing and have it bent to specifications.  It turned out that no one or any place in our tri-state area does such bending . It's the O.D size that causes the problem. After hearing of our dilemma , DR. Mario offered to do the job for us. He has the equipment and know how.  :)   We sure appreciated the offer but the 1000 mile round trip was just not in the plans. Derwood and I got out the cut off wheels, hack saws and blow torches and got medieval on the part. ;)

We found threaded rod that just fit inside the tubing . Derwood cut the needed pieces from a donor frame .  We built a holding fixture. With that and all our reference pictures from Wisconsin and New York a friend , Brian Burns tacked it together for us.

So after having the hoop tacked and checking over pictures , a minor adjustment is needed.  The stirrup on the chain case side needs cut off and relocated about 3/4 inch.  I emailed Dan Nimsgern  , he sent me a new picture of that area .  With that new information ( picture taken from a different angle ) we could see that the stirrup needs moved. In preparation of more welding we have prepped the old exhaust area for plugging at that time.   Once again primer = ours    paint =  Warning sled

Other chassis changes : shorten, cut down and radius chain case side tunnel stiffening angle iron.  I believe it was easier for Skiroule , they likely started with a bare chassis.  Derwood has some suspicions that Skiroule in fact used 1968 chassis for these SX-740 sleds.  His thinking is at least partially based on Skiroule using 1968 type chassis ID plates . The two SX-740 we know of use this style serial # plate.  Anyway, on we go.  :)   The chain case clearance bulge in the running board had to be removed and the resulting hole greatly enlarged.  This was necessary to accommodate the nearly 3 1/2 inch wider area , to  be taken up by the chain case and the needed spacer. We the help of a wooden form we roughly formed a new longer and consequently deeper part . This part will need more work at a later date and welded in place. These Skiroule designed changes were all needed to fit the engine onto the narrow tunnel . Once again these changes could not have been made by Derwood and I  without the continuing help from New York and Wisconsin.

Most have heard this story.   Skiroule  built 10 1969 SX-740 sleds .    I don't know whether this is true or not. Never the less, Derwood and I are attempting to build this sled as if were the 11th. or last 1969 SX-740 that Skiroule built. The spare chassis for the factory race team , as it were.  ;) This is the reason we chose to move a stirrup 3/4 inch , even though to some eyes it makes little or no difference. Having said this , if we were find our original chassis or missing parts , we would be over joyed.  I hope all this text is interesting to some or all.  I guess that because this sled means so much to us , we are hoping it means just a little something to others.
