And I got to ride the "rear engine panther" as well.  Very smooth! I can't, for some reason, post the direct link to the youtube video here, but if you search "rear engine panther" on Youtube, it will take you to the video.

I met Paul at Pequot Lakes a couple of years ago. He was very nice and welcoming. Ben was on the rear engine Panther, Cp told me to take it for a ride after the show. I was going to, but I never got around to it, there was just so much going on for my first time at Pequot.

    RIP CP.

Here is a pic, probably off of this site, of him on a home built.

Condolences to Ben and his family, and condolences to all of us who were fortunate enough to have known CP.  He will be missed.  And, my guess is that seeing this thread and others, he would certainly have a smart azz comment for all of us.  RIP CP.

Some four or five years ago at Princeton a young man whom I did not know came and sat with me for about half an hour and we talked sleds. I was very impressed with his knowledge and enthusiasm. Later met his Dad for the first time. I was a little drunk. He walked over and gently turned my arm over, looking at the calluses  on my hand and just said something like, "Humm, a working man, you're O.K." I felt like I just got a get out of jail free card or something. I just thought, must be a great dad to have a son like Ben.  RIP Paul. Take care Ben.

Ben grew up around so many of us, he just feels like family. Great kid, with a good head on his shoulders.

    Hey Ben,
If you are reading this.  If you ever want to tag along to Princeton or LOS, give me a shout.  I am sure we can make room and find you a sled at LOS.

However, you need to bring your own orange soda.  You'd break my bank!

First,I haven't been here in a while,so I hope everyone is doing well.

I first found out about Paul's passing Monday morning. I had sent a card to the big lug and his family and received a message on FB from his Mom about what had occurred. So,I was one of the very first in the vintage sled world to know. I am not ashamed to say that tears-lot of them-flowed.

Like a lot of you in mid-Michigan,I met CP at A-1 in '08 and spoke again in 2010 when a bunch of you cats came over. That was some serious fun;my bloody ribs STILL hurt from laughing.

Also, like Paul,I dealt with the bottle demon(amongst a few) years ago. I'm a former bartender;I ought to bloody know better. Maybe this will be that wake-up call to others fighting the good fight.

Darn it,Paul;your timing stinks. My Raiders were starting to get good again and I was looking forward to smack-talkin' to you about your Steelers vs. my Raiders. Like AFC Championship game smack.

I'm going to really miss ya,bud;darn,I'm going to truly appreciate the communication we DID have. Break some trail for us,please.  -Al

I will never forget one of the phone calls he made to me. He called up and we BS'ed a while, and then he said "the main reason I am calling is because I would love to come to your garage get together, would that be ok if I were to join you guys" and I said right back at him "Paul, my home and garage is always open to anyone, and everyone at any time of the day, you are more the welcome to come here anytime you want".

RIP CruelPaul. Chatted a few times and I always enjoyed his posts. Just read his write up and didn't realize he was born in Aberdeen, SD. So in the picture Justin posted here, I'm standing between two Aberdeen guys, my Dad and Paul. Small world. Thoughts go out to the Shearer family.
