leak down pressure test kits
« on: January 30, 2015, 07:10:17 pm »
how many people would be interested in a whole kit or components for a leak down pressure test kit of sorts.  some things it could include  carb boot pressure fitting adapter for 34-48mm size mikuni carb boots combined with 40-45mm size for mikuni.
basically fit both size boots in one unit.  threaded for pipe fitting to attach pressure regulator or use two for a twin and simply block one.  I have a prototype of this ill posts a pic of  ive been using it when i test engines and its a big help.  a twin cylinder would need two of these.
also possibly an array of exhaust port block off plates(aluminum) and intake block off plates for engines without a mikuni boot on the intake.

for the air source I use a small hand pump that is actually intended for brake pressure bleeding but works great.  at 5lbs of air you will know real quick if you have a leak or not.  if you have shop air compressor you need a real low pressure reg and gage to do this or you risk blowing the seals out.

thoughts? interest?

the mikuni boot adapter would be delrin.  the blocking plates would be aluminum.

I was just talking to a few guys about this. I would be interested and would like to see your prototype. What is your cost estimation per kit?

I could be mistaken, I frequently am.

Not sure what the cost will be yet. It will depend on the interest and what pieces people want in a kit. The more interest the more pieces I can run and the lower I can keep the cost.

Here's what a mikuni boot pressure adapter would look like.
Fits both size carbs. Pipe threaded for pressure fitting. Block off plates would look like you can imagine. Flat plate bolt holes. Solid unless people wanted those threaded for pressure fittings optionally.

So I will have 10 of these boot adapters soon. What other options do people require. Should I go on about the importance of pressure testing engines....

What block plates do people require? Exhaust bolt spacing may not fall into categories like HR ,HD  probably a multi use block plate would be good.  Does anyone need the pump for testing? Or low pressure regulator?

I am interested in three Mikuni block off plugs . I would prefer solid.
