Pair of 73 Triples

Looks to me like the holes are different widths for different carb boots.

Haven't posted in a while but am hitting them pretty hard again.



Two skids ready to bolt in.  Two triple gas tanks all fabbed up and sealed.  Ready for bodywork and paint.



Kinda a lot to look at here if you like 73 Starfire stuff......took me a long time to get all these parts.







Steel and aluminum West Coast Vintage Sleds skis.  Correct 73 Starfire carbides all restored and mocked onto the skis.



New Dr Mario track on the bottom, note the NOS talonic cleats that I got from a friend of mine.  Restored original track on the top.  Took two original 73 Starfire tracks to make it, but it turned out nice.  Crap load of work though!  Best cleats from both tracks removed, restored and new rivets.  Note the correct guide cleats on this one.  An absolutely correct track will have regular, guide and talonic cleats.....but the guides and talonics are not available.  New track goes on 650, restored track onto the 440.



Hinges, are simply not available, anywhere it seems.  So I took the hogged out, screwed up, smashed mashed hinges that I had and fixed them....and they turned out great.  Tig'ed the hogged out pushpin holes and repaired the ground off corners and whatever else they needed and kept at it until they were nice.  Before pair, and after pair.  The repaired pair were even worse than the just Tig'ed ones shown.



Drill the "B" half first in the drill press.  Final hole size 3/16.



Screwed them down to a 2x4 and used the B as a guide to drill the "A" half.



Restored/repaired, drilled and ready to go.



Had zero nice ones....now I got enough for 3 hoods.  New pushpins from McMaster-Carr.  I need to shorten the tethers a bit to be correct.



440 pipes and flanges.  What I have so far.  These have proven to be pretty hard to find.

Hey Vinracer, yes I used pieces of the skid I got from you.  Took 3 1/2 skids and parts to make the two skids you see there.  I used the welded, reinforced original rails I got from you cuz they have so much period racer vibe to them.  That skid will go on the 440.

Emrickmn: bit by the race bug.....yes I am.  Was fun to actually combine the enjoyment of building a pretty sled and then use it rather than just sit on a shelf like most of my other restorations.  Probably good that I live out here where we don't have any races except Yellowstone though.  Cuz if I lived in my home state of Minnesota I would be into it big and probably in deep trouble with my wife.  Pepsled gets the credit for our race sleds running as strong as they do though.  He builds the motors and clutches and does ALL the tuning.

phil, still haven't found the 3rd pipe for the 440?  the 2 i sent you look pretty nice.  checked on cleats. sorry i don't have any guide cleats. hurry up and finish these so vin racer and i can run some hot laps at yellowstone.

Ken, I have couple more pipes coming....so hope one of them is the elusive third pipe.  If not I will just have to modify one of the others.  Have heard that the pipe bodies are the same with the differences being in the stinger and head tube.  Thanks for looking for the cleats though, and thank you for the pipes you sold me!

Two triple tanks (dual outlets).  I fabbed these from AC lightning bolt tanks which have the correct outside dimensions.  Huge amount of work, but good original 73 Starfire tanks are nearly impossible to find.  Once body worked and painted these will be very nice and correct.  Sand blasted inside and sealed with Por15.  These are the 4th and 5th tanks that I have done over the past 3 yrs so am pretty comfortable doing them.
