Wow! The weights were cooked folks. Two out of three are totally egged out.  Looking at the pins, two were badly notched from the two bad weights.  I have no idea what caused this. I did spray the clutch with brake clean years ago? Who knows. After this, I did check the Jag those weights were still tight.

Couple notes from this:

The worse weight was a bear to get out. I had to tap the pin with another pin, turn it with the hex, tap, turn. It took 30 minutes to get out.

That being said, I had to use one of the old pins. I need to bore out that hole in the clutch because for some reason, the new pin won't go in. The ultra worn pin must have grooved the clutch. I'll drill that out and then install the new pin.

The new shims that go between the weight and the clutch are a bear to install! I like the original design better.

The new pins are tight on the clutch. The older style pins will move side to side a bit. Confirmed on the Jag.

Ok Ok I know.... :o   when re-assembling do you use any type of lube, or just go in dry?

    Earl,
    LOL!

Dry. The factory manual does say to use some lock tight on the pin threads. It also states to ensure the head of the pins are facing the front of the sled.

We did about 30 miles this weekend which is a lot for our secondary trail system.

The Puma starts off from a stop and zips along much better. I'd say it's the smoothest it's been in the 8+ years we've owned it. Starting from a stop is smooth. Power comes on evenly and in a few field crossing, it pulled pretty darn good WOT. Yes, it's a 340 single carb spinning a 136" track...but it sure moves along nicely for the riding we do.

I had some time this weekend was able to get the new pin in. I had to drill the hole out. Well, I didn't drill much of anything. I'm guessing there was a bur or lip in there form one of the weights wobbling. Once that was cleaned up, the new pin went right in.

I'll say it again; these new individual shims are much harder to get in there with the weight and pin; takes some finagling. The one piece units were a lot easier to install. Oh well, is what it is! Hoping this setup should be good for awhile now.

Thunder Products makes a tool to install the shims.   Its a pin that screws on the end of the weight bolt.   So you can line the shim weight up as you push it through.   Its like $6.     They have new bolts and a lot of clutch parts you need.

Wow! That's brilliant! Would have made lift much easier. Thanks for posting that. For $6, probably a good thing to have around for future needs. Looks like a lot of good clutch parts on that site.

And speaking of parts, anyone ever replace the center bushing on that's on a face plate(not sure of the exact name!) of the 9 tower primary?

    Earl,
I think it's 0646-201; goes on the inside of the cover that holds the spring in place on the primary.

Just went to buy that lineup pin. $5.95 but the cheapest shipping option they allow is $11.16.  Wow.  I’ll wait until I need more clutch parts.
