Title: 1975 Polaris TX 440 resurrection
Post by: TXFAN on August 28, 2020, 12:51:01 am
Just recently bought three TX's and some parts from a gentleman in western NY.  At first I thought that this TX was to be a parts sled, but when I got it home and started looking at it, I found it to be a diamond in the rough, it is actually quite straight.   The original 04 motor is missing, but the original pipes and 38mm carbs were used on a 398 charger engine that someone had nicely grafted into the sled.  I was told it ran pretty good, but I have an 05 motor that I will use until I can source an 04 short block.   I also have a nice original seat that will go on the sled.   This sled would restore very nicely, but I already have a cherry 75 440, so I will resurrect this to a clean rider status and document it here.

Started disassembling the sled this evening.   I plan on taking it down to a roller and then wash it good.   I do not plan on any paint or body work, except for painting a decent set of shovel nose skis for it.

Nice score. You should put it in the F.O.T.Y. contest on the 24/7 forum.  :)

Actually the lot may be a good FOTY entry.  The pipes are indeed factory, a one year design.

finally finished the resurrection of this 75 440 last weekend.  Other projects had taken priority and this one got put on the back burner.   The -05 engine runs fantastic with the -04 pipes, no issues at all.  Found a decent used seat on ebay that had just enough wear to match the sled, so all of the parts match.   Other than the slightly wrong engine, it could be be mistaken for a real nice survivor original.

Beautiful sled. That year is one of my favorites along with the twin pipes for that year only. Do you have a video of it running?
