Title: 1974 Polaris TC 175
Post by: toocheaptosmoke on April 08, 2020, 12:23:48 am
Picked up this little guy earlier this year, been sitting for a while.  Engine must have been sitting on a damp floor for decades and was it a little rough shape.   Rest of the sled was stored out in a shed and held up much better.   Neat little sled!

When my kids were little I tried and tried to find a TC for them to ride, but never found one.  They are a cool little sled!

Those are rare as heck. I remember reading that they were designed to be low for kids and low in order to out them in the back of a station wagon too.

There are two different parts books for the TC, one for the early and one for the late model.  I think you have the "early" model.  I believe the early models had the chrome rear bumper and the quarter turn hood latches.  I believe the "late" models had the painted rear bumper and I think they had rubber rear hood hold downs although the late parts book does not show them.  The windshield was designed to be folded down to make a low profile for loading into a station wagon or whatever.  Someone else can correct me but I think that the early models were painted 73-74 blue and the late models were painted 75-81 midnight blue.  One other thing, both parts books say 1975 but the early book has the same cover page artwork as the 1974 parts books and the late parts book has the same cover page artwork as the 1975 parts books.

I don’t believe you need that, it’d best be dropped off at my place I’m sure I can find something cool to trade you for it.

Good info, thanks!   I think the later models also had more vent slots cut into the steel cowling as well?

Wedgies:  Think I still need to try and leave some centurion parts at your place sometime, not so sure about the TC...  haha

stupid question: how does the windshield fold down for transporting?

That's a great question!   Apparently removing 4 phillips head machine screws somehow qualifies as "easy fold down"...   ::)  :P

Sure does , phillips head = twice the slots = 1/2 as easy to insert screw driver.   EEEEaaaasssyyy . ;)

Oh man did we have fun with our 250!  In this shot we had graduated to using Moms Mustang 530 20" sled to pull the tube around the yard, but that poor little TC got the snot beat out of it for many winters before that!!

Windshield was mounted with holes in the two outside positions and slots in windshield for center positions.  Windshield would pivot on outer bolts and slide off of center bolts.  Probably had to loosen screws a little.

Cool photo!  8)

It has an actual jackshaft and exposed chain drive.

Makes sense on the windshield.

I always thought they looked like cool little sleds. Several years ago a friend had two of them for sale cheap...kinda wish I'd have jumped on them. Isn't there something bad about them though, something like the belts are hard to get, or tough to get on/off the sled?
