Yes they do and deserve respect greatly because it takes many hours and hands on experience plus alot of determination to build and race the old stuff. Not everyone rolls in with a ton of sponsors and just drive a sled built by someone else, tuned by someone else , and paid for by someone else. If you do good for you but winning is sweeter when you have dirt and grease under your finger nails. ALDO

Here's the line I get: "When are you going to race a REAL SLED and get rid of that old junk?!" Just pizzes me off to no end every time I hear it. >:(
Or: I call about a race and ask if they're running any vintage classes. "Oh sure. Just bring your sled and we'll make a class for you." I pay me fees, wait in line for hours on end through 45 late-model classes to get one pass against the two other vintage sleds that showed up (Typical scenario - me on a 440 fan, another guy on a 300cc stock single, and a third guy on a 440 liquid mod, all lined up against each other.), then hustle us right out of there after our one-and-done pass so they can get back to the REAL SLED racers. I've had this happen enough times that other than a few rare exceptions, I only go to races that are 100% vintage any more.

Yes Doug, I agree hole heartedly, vintage does matter, and it gives those that may not be able to afford to go racing a chance to get out there to learn and to try the sport. Most vintage racers do not have endless resources and do things on their own, you are an example of this, you bust your butt to be out there on a shoe string budget you endeavor to learn and improve and you have paid your dues it is likely that if there was no vintage classes, like most of us you would have a hard time doing what you enjoy.

They laugh at the old stuff until a 77 Srx or blizzard eats their improved stock 600s for lunch then they say your cheating lol or a GPX 433 wins the 700 stock class

Drivers and sleds I'm 51. Still run a 75 super stock GPX 433 against the young guns got second in points the past two years in ovals but takes a good year to heal after a good crash lol

Well put Elvis. We are racing what we want to also. We pack a couple of trailers with Scorpions (12-15) and have the time of our lives on the grass! Great people, cool sleds and nice weather. 1 new sled in a 30ft trailer just don't seem fun to me. Unless it's one of them 600 horse 4 stroke mod monsters!!

Takes all racers of vintage sleds to keep it going and as a participant in the sport of vintage stuff everyone that owns a vintage sled or rides or races a vintage sled is a winner . We as vintage guys and gals need to get the young kids interested and even aquire some older people to get involved as riders racers or in restoration to keep this sport alive and I feel it is growing and thank all you people and my friends for being involved.

I run a team of four ski-doo race sleds. I super mod liquid 440, 1 super stock 440 free-air, 1 440 free-air mod stock, and a 340 mod stock free-air. I have a young guy at 29 years old racing my sleds. Is he interested in old sleds and having fun doing it? Darn right he is. I also have a 32 year old and a soon to be 30 year old sons. Are they interested in old sleds? Heck ya! They both run the F-500 class. One as a 78 blizzard F-500 and the older guy has his as a 99-2003 mx-z glass on a F-500. Neither one of these guys has any interest in running the new stuff. The vintage is too fun!
I'd like to say I'm doing my part in passing down the torch and keeping this sport alive. And yes,
Vintage Racers Do Matter!
(Look at the number of Eagle River Derby weekend entries every year compared to Eagle River Vintage weekend entries, numbers don't lie)
