An okd Evinrude worker told me they used to dry bad OMC CDI boxes in the oven and they would come back to life. Anyone ever try this? I would think that any moisture inside of that voodoo box of black magic may cause problems?

You guys may have solved a 20 year mystery!Friend of mine got a 245 RV chassis from MT Pleasant Salvage yard. He bought '76 crankcase from some guys who bought out a race team from UP,they were from Illinois themselves. I took the top end off a '75 Sonic(340) and added it to the '76 bottom end and used the box off the Sonic since it had blown the bearing out the bottom.Ok,this is where it got weird, sled started fine, idled fine, wouldn't rev high up to even move! Took it Doo dealer mechanic,he played with it,different clutch, carbs and rotary disc.Nothing worked, sled was put in barn where it has sat for 20 years!Maybe it's time it was woke up again! hotdoo

From what I've heard this new hewtech cdi will give ya bright bold spark and there VERY reasonable in price ! I've paid more for a 30 year old oem cdi and its probably going to have the same dead spot issues if it even works at all anymore .
Thanks for taking me to those radar races in the 70's Dad !

Has anyone ran the hewtech 77-80 Srx box on the curved 77 Srx stator and flywheel?
Triple digits in Yamaha and still looking for more.  Got any?

Yes my friend Tim Broberg runs the hewtech cdi on his srx's and he holds the Nssr record with speed runs .
This is who told me what my problem might be when I explained how my sled ran

The 76~80 SRX used 3 different CDI's.  The 76SRX used same CDI as 76 exciter & older GPX's.

The 77~79 can use the same CDI, although the stator values are different.  The 77 stator was designed for higher RPM's and has a much lower spark energy at lower RPM than the 78/79 or 80...all those were set up for good spark at lower RPM for less plug fouling for trail-riding.

The 80 SRX is a totally different CDI, and will not work swapping stators, flywheels or CDI's with the others.  My opinion looking at all the years is the 80 CDI was much reduced in cost & reminds more like the Exciter & Enticer CDI's than the earlier models.

All our Yamaha CDI's have the same increased spark energy & mirror the Hitachi timing profiles so are bolt-on.  Only reason to change timing or jetting is to accommodate the increased energy which does lite things up faster than stock.  Advantages for higher-compression, cold temps & race-gas.....the usual combination where the stock CDI either won't fire up or breaks up at upper RPM's.  More energy is an advantage in those cases.

Scott I have two bad yamaha cdi's that are worthless to me , as I said I did order a hewtech thru Dave ( he didn't have any on stock so he was going to place order ) my sno pro needs one and I should replace my grass drag sled cdi before next season. Can I give you or Dave my old cdi boxes as I would like to have the original box with hewtech inside on my all stock grass drag sled ,
I realize this would be more expensive to do but I was told by Tim that you did a box for him that way , and I wouldn't need that cdi done till next July , ??

Whoa....don't give away all the secrets!!!  Actually I have done a few like that so the CDI unit appears original for show sleds, but actually runs reliably.  The runs reliably part should be the dead giveaway it's not an original Hitachi CDI!

Contact me directly by e-mail & we can arrange......thanks
