Concrete slab rates
« on: October 17, 2013, 03:48:38 am »
I am pondering the idea of having a concrete slab added right next to my garage.

And wonder was was a decent rate per square foot when all said and done.

Slab size would be around 12' x 35-40'

I am just looking at using it for an additional parking spot.

concrete finishing is usually quoted by the yards of concrete poured.  since you are needing upwards of 7 yards of concrete  your looking at cost of concrete plus anywehere from 50-100$ per yard to "finish" it.

Just like everything now days --"that price is too $##@$% high". lol  I poured a garage floor this year, did all the labor myself, still cost 6k.  I got 2 estimates for it and both were 11k-- and I still would have had to put in my own sand!  size was 32x52x5

I haul redi-mix concrete and the cost to do a slab is a really variable thing per contractor. With our company I've seen the price of the concrete itself vary from as low as $85.00 up to $100.00 per yard...depends on "who you know" if you get my drift. The most important thing is to properly prepare the site. Make sure you have a properly compacted substrate with no soft/wet spots. Grades and slopes need to be set for proper drainage of water. You can't just pour over a mudhole no matter how much rebar is used. If you don't have the knowledge, experience and proper equipment to do the job, a good contractor is worth every penny.

I'm Sure that $500 doesn't include the concrete.

If some of you guys are paying $4.00 a square foot  :o its time to learn as it isn't rocket science.

When you consider the rental of equipment, concrete cost, labor, transportation.  i really don't belive $4 is too far out of line. But if you have people to give you a hand for for free and your good with slab pouring, yeah you could do it cheaper. It just comes down to if it's worth it to you.

    40" x 60" x 4-6" = $12,000 in 2005. Exceptional quality when complete.

It hurt, but when it comes to concrete I will pay a little more to make sure I have someone who's not selling me a weak batch.  Amish... I wouldn't have them set stone let alone poor concrete, they put of the building on this slab and if I weren't there then the building wouldn't have been anything like we wanted.  You had to baby sit them, they just want to get in and get out and on to the next one. And I insisted that they get paid by the hour to avoid this rush.

    That's my take.

That was with the concrete $90 a yard installed. It came from the same place that both other contractors quoted me from. Yes you do have to baby sit them just like every contractor.
