Great Hunting Weekend Sno- Flite Style
« on: March 26, 2012, 02:23:54 pm »
So this old gal and the 1968 Johnson have sat in a field just 2 miles west of my house. I see them every Sunday on our way to my grand parents house. Well I finally tracked down the owner(the husband died here 2 years ago). She said that I could take them. So I go to looking around the field they were in. It was missing one ski and the seat. About 100 yards out in the field there was this 1940 camper trailer with some stuff around it. Out isde of the trailer i see a back rest and turn it over to find the Sno- Flite sticker on the back. Score! As I peek in the coon fecal matter filled trailer I think to myself "Self brave the fecal matter and go digging". So I do. And to my joy I find the complete seat with a few holes but all there and dry. As my wife and I go to load the sled the snow had melted and there was the missing ski a few yards off. HOLY S! The luck. Now I have a complete Erickson made snowmobile. (My last name is Erickson so you can imaging my excitement.) All I need is to make a windshield and clean it up. The JLO turns free and the gas tank is missing. If any one has a photo of the gas tank I would love to see it.
He had to motor covered.

The track looks good for sitting on the ground.

Any ideas on the year? Oh ya it was free as well. The next post will show my final two finds.

Cool sled. Just like a Wheel Horse I think. A face only a mother could love.

Nice on the other finds also.  :)

The story continues. I was over at the old lady's today picking up the last of our stuff and upon looking around found the near perfect and clean enough to drink out of removable gas tank. It was awsome.

The Snow-Flites were 1969's, in 1970 they were red and called Wheel-Horse.

Well, here is the deal. I found some dealer info that had all of the 69 models listed with the Kohlers. But them there is a 292 W. That is what I have is the 292 wide track. The bumper is also 69. Im pretty sure I have a 69.

Yeah -the 69 parts list I have says the 292W is a "limited edition" and there is no part list - just ask your dealer for some thing similar from the other parts shown

As they were already owned by Wheelhorse for the 69 season -  guessing they were using up parts before the switch to Wheelhorse name in 70

the hoods and belly pans were changed to plastic for 70,  could  have had a few fiberglass wide track hoods and JLO engines to clean out too before the switch...  Wide tracks were a standard offereing in 70 as wheelhorse

Looks like you have a kinda rare find  ;D

    Yup nice find

and its good you have the quick connect -  A lot of them got replaced with a straight connector.

With it only being a 3(?) gallon tank you need to swap them often with the twin
