Sled lift
« on: March 19, 2017, 10:33:10 pm »
I just picked up a cheap 1500# motor cycle/atv lift. Has anyone converted one of these to a sled lift?
Needs to go up higher, easy but also needs to be 4"wider and extend the side rails.

Cheap is the way to go, the less you have in them, the more you can have!

Unless you have all the stuff to do what you want with it,it probably would be cheaper to buy one.

I have a homemade lift I  bought from someone but it is heavy and cranks up slowly.
I figure about 8' of 1 1/2" square tube and and some angle iron, maybe $20 for parts.
    I paid $40 for it.

Do you think it will be stable enough?

    I was thinking that also.
Looking at extending it about 10" and maybe widthwise another 6".
If you look at the left of the picture there are thumb screws to turn down to stabilize it.
Will extend those out about 3" each side.

First rendition is done  :o Will need to extend the lower frame out so that it doesn't
    tip forward.

Made it 16" wide on top should have made it 17", the bolts for the bogey sets will hit :'(

I used what I call "kindorf or strut" for material. Should be plenty strong enough :-[

did you extend the lift arms also so it raises the sled higher off the ground?

Extended them 14", makes the height 29 3/4".
The extensions for the lower frame will be removable to make it smaller for storage.

how about pinning the "arms" threaded rod so they threaded rods pivot, when you want to store it remove the 6 pins, so you would have the original section and the second piece is the new part you fabbed up.

My brother gave me one of those because it doesn't fit any of his bikes. It only works on ONE of mine, so I haven't touched it in 10+yrs. You may have just given it a 2nd life!
    Thanks!  ;D
