Installing a new hood on a 1971 Polaris TX
« on: October 05, 2015, 09:10:54 pm »
Im going to install a new hood on my 1971 Polaris TX using the old latches. This means I get to drill and pop rivet the latches on and Im afraid of it being too loose or too tight. Does anyone have a trick to make them come out right before I put the drill to the new fiberglass? Should I set the latches on tight by hand and then drill the holes 1/4" higher to make sure they are tight? I could measure the holes off the old hood but that hood seems to fit like crap anyways. Help me before I ruin the new one !!!!

Put some kind of marker such a red latex paint on the hinge set hood on sleds shim hood to get it fitted right and then gently flip hinge up and let it leave marks on hood put blue or green masking tape on hood where hinges mount and let paint leave marks on tape leave tape on and drill holes then remove tape and rivet

Dirtman, I just sent you an email looking for that rubber rope, about 10 feet. Can you help me out? I have got hours searching for it on the internet and keep getting the real hard rubber. Write me at gpanebianco@chacompanies.com if you can sell me some. Or text me at 315.391.6929

    Thanks! :)

Good idea Milty. I always put the latches on by edjamakated guess. Some times it werked two! :) Sum timez, not so much. :o
Ignorant people find me irritating. Isn't that precious

It takes dedication, and commitment to make a difference..

Please don't expect me to take you seriously, if your tinfoil hat is leaning to the far left,,,,,

and mercury is not a good replacement for tinfoil,,,,

    Have a nice day!

Not sure what the diameter of that stuff is, but in a pinch this would probably work too....

McMaster-Carr is a great site to get some of this odd stuff for the old sleds  ;)
