Ever have something like this happen?
« on: September 20, 2015, 02:51:05 pm »
I got home from work about 11:00 am yesterday morning and started hanging out a load of laundry that I threw in right after I got up. As I was pinning up garments, a chickadee landed on the line literally two feet away from me. I stopped for a few seconds expecting it to fly away, but it didn't. When it looked away I slowly reached up and touched it's tail feathers, expecting immediate flight...but it sat right there. I touched the feathers on it's back and then on the top of it's head...still no evasive action! Then it hopped around on the line and looked right at me and when I toustled the feathers on it's breast, it made a couple chipping sounds. I went back to my task and after hanging a few more items, the chickadee flitted off to a nearby feeder.
Now I know chickadees are fairly tame, I've had them flutter about while filling feeders...but I've never gotten even remotely this close before.

Anyone else ever have a pleasant surprise close encounter with a wild animal?

Had one land on my rifle barrel during gun deer season ... but it didn't stay very long.

A good tractor pulling friend passed on about two weeks ago...

I did actually think it was a little blessing from God, and just in case, I bought a lottery ticket last evening. Oh well...I guess all I get are small miracles.

That is a thought that I had too.  I've had them on my rifle barrel.  Have had them land on my head. That one stuck around pretty long must of liked my warm blaze orange stocking cap !!  Had a squirrel jump from another tree into mine from above and it was a foot from my head until I shouted at it.

Whilst reading your post, I expected to see the part where the wonderful little creature left a present for you on your fresh load of whites!

A conscience is a tool used to keep in control those who are prone to betraying their own principles.

I have no need for one.

My kid picked up a fat wild bunny like it was her best pet when at a sweet 16 party with friends. Her gal pals flipped. She set it free after it got it's ears scratched. Lil critter was happy as could be. She never saw it again.
I have one very special sled.

Thank God I have more than one hobby.

While filling a hummingbird feeder an impatient hummingbird hovered about 10" from my face until the feeder was filled and hung back up.
Why is the vintage stuff only rare and expensive when I'm looking to buy but is worthless when I try to sell it?

Fell asleep sitting down and leaning against a tree while buck hunting many years ago. Had been in the woods since around 4:30 am.  The sun came up while I was sleeping, and it was starting to get nice and warm. I was wakened by a snorting sound very close to me. I slowly opened one eye, only to see a doe's nose about a foot from my face. I said, "Good morning young lady.", and she just slowly wondered off like nothing happened. My hunting buddy, who had seen the incident, came over to me, laughing hysterically. He couldn't believe what he had just witnessed.
    I am not completely insane.......
