GoPro mount
« on: January 02, 2015, 02:22:09 am »
I bought Go-Pro  and am looking for opinions on where to mount it. My first thought was on the helmet but now am having second thoughts about maybe putting it on the hood.
Any thoughts?
Deserve's got nothing to do with it.

I found mounting it on the helmet works the best. You get vibration mounting it on the hood, and on the helmet, it points where you look. Either way they are cool to watch though.  8)

Yeah, it'll vibrate on the hood or handlebars. Helmet is a good option, but every time you turn your head, it'll take video of that.  Also make sure its angled properly if on your helmet, either up or down can make a difference.

I've been tempted to try the chest-mount. It would be neat if it were setup to take video just above the handlebars.

I don't have any pictures of the mounts, but for the bars its a standard Handle-Bar mount, just clamps on. I found that one really vibrated, then smoothed out once I hit the throttle.

For the hood, I used one of the go-pro mounts that just stick right on a flat surface, so its pretty permanent. I don't know if I'd trust one of the suction cup mounts.

I'm curious about the helmet mount as well, I'd imagine you could get a somewhat rounded one that will stick right on.

Of course, regardless of what mount you go with, if its on your body/head, you have to be careful. If you were to land right on that spot it would hurt or could do some damage.

Helmet is good as long as its positioned right.

I've also had it on my hood with the suction mount, in my experience it was not coming off no way no how. it was on an SRX and the fiberglass hood seemed to dampen the vibrations really well. good video but only show whats in front of you, which should be nothing  8)

I've mounted in on either bumper as well, when the camera is that close to the ice everything looks way faster, very impressive videos like that - but it gets covered in ice pretty quick. rear bumper wasn't as bad but the only time i tried it there is was getting beat and the video didn't work out that well.

this year I've got a chest mount and I haven't used it yet but it puts the camera in direct view of the tach and you can still see how hard shes pullin - I think it'll  be awesome for testing.

I still think the helmet mount is best, top or on the left hand side of the helmet come out the best. for impressive looking shots though, the closer to the ice the better.

That's funny Scott. Had my for over two years and it is in the same spot as yours. After I bought it I thought it would just be an unnecessary distraction.
