As a great many of us get ready to descend on the massive show in Waconia this weekend, lots of people here and around the country are asking “Where’s the snow?”
The Waconia officials are trying to keep the ride going, but it may well depend on getting some snow yet today or early tomorrow… and that does not bode well. But even with out the ride, the show, the swap, the (sold out) banquet and the oval races are all well worth the trip!
But if you are looking for great snow, look no further than the annual LIVE ON SKIS ride in International Falls, Minnesota, on February 16th. The picture up above was taken today! That’s what the trails look like up there, and they have more snow in the forecast. Also this year, the larger room in the back of the Thunderbird lodge has been reserved just for us sled heads, so we can sit back there and
tell lies shoot the breeze until the wee hours of the morning.
Many LIVE ON SKIS junkies head up on Thursday night, and then do a long ride on Friday (often with newer sleds). Then Saturday is the big vintage ride, with some of the funnest old machines you’ll ever see starting out from the Thunderbird lodge and enjoying the trails that look just like the picture above.
Is it time yet?
