I picked this sled up from the Deere man himself "John Deere Joe" its an 81 with a 275cc Spirit engine from a Jag,  i had two 79 Spitfires that i took some parts from for this, i am thinking about keeping the hood green with 81 decales, got a new seat coming,NOS windshield, blasting the skis and springs this week, this i going to be a rider for my grandson not a show sled.  Sulley

Looking good, seems to be all there without any visible "fixes".

You're lucky that the engine is not original - some of the engine parts are impossible to find.

Heads up - if the track drivers go they are also hard to get. I believe the track drivers are small, 5 or 6 tooth.

On the plus side Polaris used the plans they got from Deere for the Sprint and Star, you may be able to adapt some parts.

Looking good Sulley!

I've always like Spitfires. The engine sticking out and their smaller size are both cool.  Afro

Well the little Deeres hood is off to paint, found a Quart of JD Saber green on Fleabay for $9 ,i now its not the correct color for this year sled, but i think Deeres should be green, just ordered up a complete 81 decal kit from Frank so i am hoping to get this done before my surgery and get to see my Grandson ride it, that will be the best present i could ever get.  Sulley

Seat looks good, not factory but very nicely none.

Looking good!  I have always liked the spitfires.  My 9 yr old wants one as a vintage rider.  I think it would be perfect for him.

Nice job Sulley!  She looks pretty good in green, nice custom touch.

Don't worry about the drive sprockets too much, its that darn track you can't find.

Well the little Spiters all done, i was having problems with the Comet Duster clutch so i replaced it with a Cat Salisbury and it works great, i think this sled will be a nice rider for my grandson and sometimes me.  Sulley
