Dealers/businesses selling in the classifieds
« on: May 18, 2017, 09:17:55 PM »
What's the rules on businesses selling items in the classifieds? Thought it was frowned upon? Without supporting the page?

Normally it is against site rules. Can you send me a link the the user profile that is doing this and I'll look into it.

    Niall,

The classifieds doesn't use the forum's user profiles. You do not need to be a forum member to post in the classifieds. Perhaps if Bigwedgies could send you a screen capture, you could contact them through the info in the ad.

    Bigwedgies,

This has been part of the classified rules since they were instituted:

    Quote
Machining, rebuilding, storage and transportation services that you provide personally are allowed. Dealers may not use the classifieds. Our sales staff can assist dealers and manufacturers with advertising and can be reached at sales@verticalscope.com

However, this addendum was added several months ago:

    Quote
Supporting Site vendors are approved to use this section to highlight their feature products/services but will still need to abide by all the rules outlined in this section.

So if a dealer is a site supporting member, they are allowed some latitude in the classifieds.

Thanks JLOpower for the clarification. A screenshot will do fine, and I'll look into it from there.

I don't really see these ads as a violation. They feature a specific item that is within the guidelines, they are priced and they do not mention or advertise a business. I will let the higher ups pass final judgement on this, but it didn't set off any alarms with me.

As was stated they have the same guidelines that they have to follow, users can post, paid for vendors can post, if you see something that violates this report it for a ruling as has been done here.

So I'm guessing they're a paid vendor? They post 3 items every day and are a dealership.

They aren't listed as one, and they have posted 14 times to the Classifieds in the last week. Googling the phone number brings up that same business you found. I think this falls into the realm of not allowed.

JLO, do you want us to reach out to them, or would you prefer to?

    Kevin,

It would be best if it was done from your end. May be an opportunity for ad dollars if all goes well.

I don't know about the other moderators but I certainly don't have the time to cross check Google or social media sites to search for violations in the classifieds. I suppose if the members want to spend time ferreting out stuff like this that's their prerogative, but I don't have time for extreme vetting of every ad.

    2 more adds posted today.

I'm not trying to be a thorn. I thought I was trying to help out and keep people within the guidelines. If it were just an item or 2 I get it. But they post 3 items everyday. And a lot of times it's the same overpriced items.
I've seen other business get their adds removed, and I see other businesses pay their dues and continue selling.
We all have rules to follow, so I figured so should they.
