With him changing out the stator, how about getting the timing back to where it should be? Also, if these are aftermarket items he bought, I've would be careful with the stator and cdi, may be bad from the getgo, I've seen them bad new.

    Im with you on the aftremarket thing.
          I heard more than one instance where coils from Parts Unlimited went bad within one day.

    Coolant sensor, just go buy a new one. I've seen lots of 580 cc sleds do this too.

    Does the temp sensor mess with the ignition on a non-EFI engine?  I thought it just turned on an instrument light when hot.

    X2.  Ive never seen or heard of that sensor bothering the ignition on a carb sled.
