Will a Polaris 488 from a trail fit into a 82 Cutlass 440 (432)?

You bet, there is no dimension difference between them, just a bigger bore in da;' ol' cylinder.

OH, but, make sure you jet it for a 488, or it will be pretty lean.

This would be a 488 going into a Cutlass 440

Yeah, same same, maybe just maybe, if the trail is new enough, the cooling air may exit in a different spot, and it may have a different electrical plug on the engine, but those shouldn't be issues.

Here is the Cutlass first and the Trail second.
Looks like it will fit right in there

8)will fit fine. clutch guard hits a little. Lots of torque. Cranks are the same 440 to 488. fits liquids up to 500 too. Liquids have different curve. What you putting in the trail chassis?

The main reason that I bought the Trail (it had a bad cylinder) was for the good rubber track
and suspension to put into my 79 TX 440. I had replaced a bad piston in the 488, thanks Rusted Nuts,
and then I realized I had a nice running 87 Indy Trail that I really didn't need to keep.
Step in my 82 Cutlass 440 that needs a cdi for it since I borrowed it for the PolCatSki. The 432
does run very nicely but I thought putting in the 488 into the Cutlass would give it a little more "push".
So after all is said and done the TX will have a much better track and suspension, the Cutlass 440
will become a Cutlass 500 and the PolCatSki will have a spare motor if needed.
Now what to do with the 87 Indy shell and the TX suspension and track?

Put up some pics of the trail leftovers, I may have a use if it's worth the shipping!
