Making chicken soup from chicken poop
« on: August 10, 2016, 11:27:21 am »
I picked this one up last winter totally apart and finally getting time to work on it. ..pretty sad shape.
Somewhere in this pile theres supposed to be a 76 440 TX.  It wont be totally stock so I guess itll be a custom?

Fresh from the "pile".  Not much to go by and I will be schooling on how a TX is put together...this is just how I got it.

The original belly pan was thrown out by the previous owner so I found this one on ebay.  Much fitting involved between there being a new pan, very rough hood, smashed hood hinge, and bent bumper. Ive gotta get better at taking more pix of the carnage.
After I get stuff fitted it will get stripped again and soda blasted.  Blasting in hot weather is a dull sport so it'll be a while before that happens.

    Thanks Brokenleg.
I cleaned the aluminum engine parts with a homemade vapor blast unit that sprays glass bead with water and air pressure.
The internals were just done in the parts washer.

Thanks guys.   Here are a couple pix of what I used.  I didn't know if it would work so I didn't invest tons of time making it.
The blue tank had a bladder in it that was removed and is set up like a pressure blaster with an air nipple in the top and a bung to put the water in the top.
The small hopper has the glass beads in it and mounts to the side of the bench.  It works, but its slow..Ive never seen a real one but the idea intrigued me.   I like building, but didn't have the ambition to make an entire cabinet....Im also not sure how much it'll get used.

Anything commercial I found so far was made in the UK and pricey. Those have a windshield wiper and use a full cabinet.
Im sure if the right mind was at it, it can be improved upon.

Ignorant people find me irritating. Isn't that precious

It takes dedication, and commitment to make a difference..

Been busy at work but finally got a chance to mock up some parts and did a batch of blue stuff...The skid and new track were fitted as well but I forgot to take pics of that part.

For paint, I used what I call "summa paint"- which is summa dis and summa dat. It started out as acrylic equipment enamel for tint mixed with urethane clear and hardener. Ive done this before with good results..it can be wet sanded and buffed and has good chemical resistance to fuel.

Im getting kinda anxious to start building so I just started blasting and painting. I tried soda blasting the tunnel and it worked out well on the aluminum.  Ive still got a ton of little stuff to paint before I can get busy building. maybe by the weekend I'll have a skidframe done.
Not sure if I need to switch to decaf or get a better camera :-[

Thank you guys!  Yes the soup's gettin better...I started with better poop than the last one. I just wish I could take better pics.

Polaris case, that was a well tank, but I removed the bladder so it functions like a plain tank. As far as pressure goes I cant remember exactly.  There is a cheapo harbor freight regulator thingy with a gauge but I pretty much ignored it and was toning down the pressure with the shop regulator. As it sits, the water tank is set up like a pressure pot sand blast unit.  I use super fine glass bead that is pulled to the gun under vacuum.  Its very mild (slow)
