While I will be starting the story of this sled with photos, I am by no means an authority on this sled, the Polaris Starfire or the racing effort put forth by Polaris. I can say that I have met the owner ( a few years ago) and know some of the guys that know this sled and it's racing history out West. I also know the Man that put together the effort to see this historic racing sled brought back to life....... His name is Perry Hesteness.....  Just a tremendous guy !!!!!

Several Months ago, I was asked to be part of a part of a team to help restore this ... well, kind of unusual sled. A 73 Starfire 600. Really?
The assembly team consisted of ...Curtis Tate (1977Polaris) Perry Hesteness ( Roadbearing) and myself (vinracer12) We were just the guys that spent a 3 day weekend in Idaho not long ago getting her assembled for a new lease on life.   As with many restorations, the list of people that become a part of the project is long and I must admit, I do not know all the names on that list. But Perry does!!!

Getting the sled ready to move out of its 30+ year resting place and loaded into the trailer.

Lot's of photos taken prior to disassembley, for history sake and for reassembly. It was amazing how may times we referenced the photos during the weekend.

Note the John Deere handle bars, Arctic Cat temp gauges

Curtis and I actually had it pretty easy. Perry had gotten all the parts back from the painter, all the parts back from the powder coater, the seat was done, the decals were waiting, the motor had been rebuilt, the pipes were ready, in other words...... everything was there to be put this baby back together.

Setting the Starfire hood bumper rails was a bit of a challenge. The hood fit OK, but not great. It took some time to get it right. The decals went on smoothly.

OK so I have been biting my lip way to long on this one  grin'  For the first time since I have been in vintage sleds I am truly jealous  thank you   This is the coolest sled I think I have seen come down the chute for a long time and I would love to own this sled.    Congratulations on your one of a kind find and I hope you enjoy it as much as I would if I could find one

I have only seen two of these engines in existence.   A true work of art.  Doc

Is there a reverse lever in this thing or is it just the way Ski-Doo's go?
