I am so glad to hear that the Eagle River Vintage Weekend went down as the biggest they have ever had. Way to go racer's!!! Lets keep the vintage hobby alive and well. In the past year I think everyone can agree that this hobby has grown enormously. With record numbers of members on both this site as well as several others dedicated to old sleds. I am truly amazed at how big this hobby has gotten over the past year. Good Job everybody get those old sleds out and ride, race, or restore 'em

OKAY NOW ON TO THE BIG SHOW!!!, As many of you know this event will be held on Saturday Jan. 30th and Sunday Jan. 31st.

Here is the current News

•AAEN PERFORMANCE GRUDGE DRAG RACES:    New to our 2010 event will be a Saturday Grudge Race program offering "a line up against your buddy" drag race. We of course will keep our regular drag race program on Sunday for those a little more serious but we wanted to offer another event for the guys that just want to have some fun and maybe win a little braggin rights. Our goal with this event is to just have fun. We will charge a $5 tech fee (trying to insure sleds appear safe to race) per sled and then you can make as many runs as you have buddys to challenge. You can run that 372 Panther against your buddys 399 Olympic or maybe its your "Z" against your buddys SRX. Its all for fun and braggin rights. We will require working tether switches to race. Its gonna be fun and its gonna be cheap. Gotta like that.
Thanks to Olav Aaen for being the advertiser for this event.  Also, Aaen Performance will donate a set of their vintage tuned pipes for our silent auction.  The winning bidder can have their choice of pipes from Aaen's extensive selection

•The dedicated folks that created the MAKE-a-WISH Ski Doo last year are at it again!  It's official --- a 340S is undergoing for a major overhaul.  Good luck in your restoration project.  Keep up with this special build.  The Waconia Committee is honored that you would showcase and auction off your special John Deere at Waconia 2010.

•There will be special John Deere judged classes -  see details on the EVENTS page http://www.mwvss.com/events/

•John Deere dignitaries will attend.    We are talking to several manufacturer reps, racers and mechanics and have invited them to attend both days.  We will put together an informative program of speakers for the Saturday night banquet.  They will be available for the autograph session as well.   Visit this website often for updates as we receive commitments from these people.http://www.mwvss.com/news/

•Waconia announces 2010 special John Deere & Cross Country Racers classes for Sunday's judged show   Be aware that John Deere cross country racers will be judged in the John Deere classes.   The two "Cross Country Racer" classes this year will feature other brands.

•See ROLA RACING, UPDATE message, approving 9 additional race classeshttp://www.rolaracing.com/wp/?page_id=6

•FREE SWAPPING ON SUNDAY:   We want to promote sons & daughters choosing a sled to rebuild and show up next year on our trail ride.  We are offering FREE swapping spaces on Sunday.

•Park your trailer on Friday afternoon:  Participants, vendors and pre-registered swappers will be allowed to park their trailers at the event site, Friday between 1:00 pm and dusk.  This will allow faster set-up on Saturday and ease the parking burden at local hotels.  We assume no liability. Trailers are parked at the owner’s risk.

•But a ticket to win a rare vintage Arctic Cat and support families with disabilities.  Tickets will be on sale at our event, where you can see the vintage machine on display!  Tickets are $10/each and there is only 1,000 printed.   The special machine is a 1971 Arctic Cat Lynx with a 305 4-Stroke motor --- 1 of 910 produced. The sled will be as original as possible when complete. Currently it is torn down and parts have been sent to locations across the nation for rebuild and refurbishment.  Arc Headwaters is the charity (www.archeadwaters.org ). They help children, individuals, and parents of children with disabilities in the northwest portion of Minnesota.  The drawing will be held March 6, 2010 at the Black Cat in Thief River Falls, MN as part of the vintage ride event.

•Are you a Boa Brother?  Be prepared to visit with the Boa Brotherhood at Waconia 2010. Look for the BOA REUNION 2010 at a special site near the food tent.  They will have a heated trailer and Boa Ski machines on display.  Look for their classic red Boa Ski hats.

Also remeber to call our Hotline with any questions you may have or post it up on here.

On a side note, I would also be able to take some people out on a trail ride of the area on friday afternoon. It would be about 30-40 miles with a couple stops at some restaurants and bars. Please PM me if you are interested.

Can't wait, it will be a LOT of fun this year!!!!

That grudge race sounds like a lot of fun, but my sled is not studded so it does not look like that would be a good idea for the ice!

Would others be interested in just an optional "snow track" groomed of course.

So what does everybody think The Waconia show looks like weeks before the event. These were taken last night while my father was walking the dogs. The plowing did start this past weekend, and there are plans to plow again this coming weekend. We are happy to say that the ice looks very good as far as thickness. The ice does look like it will be shaved down for the intense racing action.

I think an optional snow track would be a great idea for those who just want to have the "grudge match."  Isn't that how most are settled in the first place?         ridethewind                  eek'

I would be up for the grudge match if it was on a groomed track!

Do we just need a teather on the sled?? The sled is safe otherwise that I would like to run.

I hear you there about hacking into the sled. I would have to drill a hole to mount the teather & hook it up. I wonder if a bracket bolted with the recoil/handle eyelet would be o.k.?? I would like to use something to add on to that is already on the machine and not have to drill holes.

What I thought he was getting at is having 2 tracks, a groomed ice one and a snow covered one.  I think that would be best for all if at all possible.  I know I would like to see how some of my sleds compare to others but I'm not going to mess with them and put studs in them just for a friendsly grudge match.       whoops

Black tape the snot out of it to the handle bar support. As long as it unplugs long before the tape rips, it should be fine. "Working teather" means just that. If it works you should be fine

Thanks for clearing that up Don!! I was thinking it had to be secured in a fashion with brackets/bolts or drill holes for a hard type mount.
